Ferro-manganese also finds extensive applications in the metallurgical industry, primarily for producing ferro‑manganese alloys, manganese‑copper alloys, and manganese sand for steelmaking. It is broadly classified into high‑carbon ferro‑manganese (with a carbon content of 7%), medium‑carbon ferro‑manganese (containing 1.0–1.5% carbon), and low‑carbon ferro‑manganese (with a carbon content of 0.5%).
